Mumbai Man Drowns Trying To Save A Girl Who Fell Off A Cliff Into The Sea While Taking Selfies

A 20-year-old college girl drowned at Bandra Bandstand on Saturday. She is believed to have been swept away in the high tide.

On seeing the incident, a youth who was standing nearby too jumped into the sea.
When the incident occurred the girl along with her two friends (all girls aged around 19 and 20) have gone to take a stroll. The Bandra police and the fire brigade had reached the spot and tried saving the victims.

Petrol prices up Rs 5 per liter after Polls

According to the fresh reports from the media, just after a day when state assembly election results were announced, the central government of the country has decided to increase petrol prices by Rs 5 per liter.

The increased prices are applied from the mid-night yesterday.

Meanwhile, the central government of the country has hiked the petrol price nine times since last June. The increase is one of the highest in the past few months; it will jolt the budget of every common man.

Further, some sources have told media that the government is also planning to increase diesel and domestic gas prices in the coming week or so.

IndianOIl, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum have announced to increase the prices between Rs 4.99 and Rs 5.01 per liter in the national capital with effect from midnight yesterday.

In the meantime, the government has said that this is very important for us to increase the prices. The oil ministry official said that the hike in rates is must otherwise it will be hard for the government.

Inflation, IIP numbers comforting

Industrial production up 7.3% in march; inflation at 18-month low of 7.7% after four month of slow growth, industrial production growth in march beat forecasts to grow 7.3%.however, the industry remains caution about growth ahead due to rising interest rates.  

Finance Minster Prenab Mukherjee said that the comforting news on the inflation front with food inflation moderating from 8.53% to 7.70% is matched by turn-around in index of industrial production (IIP) for March 2011.mukherjee said that within     the industrial sector, the manufacturing sector with a weight of almost 80% grew 7.9%. There is also a revival in the growth of Capital goods with the index growing 12.9% after three months of negative growth, he said.

However, the FM cautioned that these weekly and monthly cycles of bad and good news must be treated without over reaction. "The good news that we have got this week both other prices front and on industrial production must not be overintrepreted, just as we must not get overly pessimistic when the economy does badly during a week or month," he said.

Shah Rukh Khan Denies Lip Lock With Kareena

 Being directed by Shirish Kunder, there were talks that Katrina Kaif and Salman Khan would be making a special appearance together in this flick. It was touted that they would do a special dance number for it.

With Katrina having been the main lead for Farah Khan's 'Tees Maar Khan' and with her 'Sheila Ki Jawani' number having become a craze, news spread like rapid fire that Shirish and wife Farah were keen that Kat make an appearance in 'Joker'.

Also, Farah Khan's close proximity to Salman (they are good friends) is well known. And the potential of Salman being a part of this venture isn't too far-fetched either.

The world now believes that Salman and Katrina will groove to a song together in 'Joker'. However, sources close to the actress say that the above news is just speculation.

We are told, "Since Farah is close to both Katrina and Salman, people are assuming that she'll approach the two for a song. Nothing has come forth yet.

Imran Khan enjoys Holi due to Karrena illness

Imran Khan has Kareena Kapoor to thank for letting him have a Holi party this year.

The actor has been shooting round the clock for two films Yashraj's Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and Dharma Production's Short Term Shaadi.

However, Thursday evening his Short Term Shaadi co-star Bebo fell unwell, due which the shoot had to be cancelled. Imran who had no plans initially, jumped the gun and decided to organise a Holi party for friends at his Bandra pad.

A source reveals, "Imran loves to play Holi. It's one of his favourite festivals. But due to his back to back shoots, he had given up on celebrating the festival this year. When he received the news, that his shoot for the Dharma film got cancelled due to Kareena falling ill, he checked on her health status. After that he decided to plan a last minute Holi party."

Imran immediately sent out text messages to all his close friends and asked them to come over for dinner.

Says Imran, "I've been really busy off late, so when I got a day off, all I could think of was to celebrate Holi."

No More Holi Songs In Hindi Films, says Amitabh Bachchan

There was a time when Holi provided not only an occasion for outstanding song situations in Bollywood films but also a pretext for great drama. But today, the festival of colours seems to have lost its knack for producing great numbers.

Onscreen Holi is inseparable from Amitabh Bachchan, who not only participated in some spectacular Holi sequences of Hindi cinema, but also sang one of the most enduring Holi numbers - "Rang barse" in "Silsila".

Amitabh Bachchan said, “That's a legacy of my father. I came to know of this song through him. I used to sing 'Rang barse' and 'Mere angnein mein' at all the Holi get-togethers in our house. That's where Yashji and Prakashji heard these songs, got them into 'Silsila' and 'Lawaaris' and asked me to sing them. So I'm in a way instrumental in getting these songs into the movies."

Is it any wonder then that Yash Chopra insisted that Amitabh sing the song in "Silsila" himself?

Some years later, he again lent his voice to another enduring Holi song - "Holi khele raghuveera awadh mein" in the film " Baghban", a folk song from Uttar Pradesh that composer Aadesh Shrivastava had heard both the Big B and his father Harivanshrai Bachchan sing on Holi occasions.

"I had heard Amitji and his father sing this traditional Holi song. So when the situation for a Holi number arose in 'Baghban', I immediately suggested we do a new version of 'Holi khele raghuveera' and I insisted that Amitji sing it," says Aadesh.

But Aadesh feels that the traditional Holi number has lost its relevance and resonance in present times.

"I heard a very odd Holi song in a film a few years ago with some strange lyrics in English. I feel today's generation lacks a connectivity with our culture and roots. They don't know what Holi signifies.

"This inability to understand what our culture is all about is reflected in our cinema. Holi songs are as irrelevant today as Holi itself. When we decided to do a Holi song in 'Baghban', we wanted to make it acceptable to the younger audiences. So I changed the traditional number to a rave composition. It worked, but I don't see myself composing another Holi number in the near future. There are no takers," he said.

Vipul Shah wanted a really young peppy Holi number in "Waqt". He got Anu Malik to compose "Do me a favour let's play Holi".

Explains Vipul: "It was the only way I could get the younger audiences interested in a Holi song. We can't have 'Holi aaee re kanhayee' in today's day and age."

Holi songs have a curiously long and chequered history in Hindi cinema.

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali says: "I loved the sounds of those Holi songs. I loved 'Holi aae re kanhaiayee' from 'Mother India' and 'Mohe panghat pe nandlal' in 'Mughal-e-Azam'. When I made 'Devdas', I so badly wanted to include a Holi song. But I couldn't. But if you see, I've used the colours of Holi and the abeer and gulaal motifs throughout."

The festival of colours used to be a wonderful triggering point for movies in the past. Rajinder Singh Bedi's "Phagun" in 1973 centred on the theme of Holi.

In "Kati Patang" and "Sholay", directors Shakti Samanta and Ramesh Sippy made fabulous use of Holi colours to create a contrast between the spotless white of the widow and the rainbow colours of celebration.

And since such excellence is unlikely to be surpassed by films of today, here's a list of top five Holi songs:

King Khan joins FaceBook for his Fans

Only a couple of days after Shah Rrukh Khan officially declared he's left Twitter for good, the star has decided to join Facebook, and it's primarily for his fans. SRK's Facebook page will be inaugurated today at 9pm IST.

The page will feature a documentary on K. Asif's epic film Mughal-e-Azam, reported Mumbai Mirror. And the Badshaah apparently planning to use his page to preserve other such classic films.

He hopes to get support from the Indian Government and film associations in the future who will come together to create a forum to preserve such classic films and use Facebook to reach out to a wider audience," a source told the tabloid.

SRK claims he isn't too good with dealing with people, which is why he decided to go off the micro blogging site Twitter.

"To begin with, I don't know how to deal with people. And when I was on Twitter, people would ask me very intrusive questions. They would ask stuff that even my closest friends would not. I was sharing personal details on Twitter, including my kids' pictures, but after I realised it was getting too personal, I got back to y reclusive, unsocial self," SRK had told Hindustan Times.

"I don’t need to promote my films on Twitter," he added. He might have said he will not promote his films on Twitter but does that apply for Facebook as well? Wouldn't his fans want to know about his films Ra.One and Don 2. After all, he is joining for his fans!

So, how exactly does Shah Rukh plan to stay out of interacting with his fans without them asking too many personal questions. Well, we guess only time will tell.
